Manual or electric tattoo chair: which adjustments matter during a session?
- 13 min reading time
Choosing a manual or electric tattoo chair is fundamentally about which adjustments you need to make while a client is in the chair. With the Pro Ink 602, the armrests, backrest and footrest are manually adjustable; the manufacturer describes its height of approximately 76 cm as fixed. With the Pro Ink 606, the height can be adjusted from 60 to 75 cm and the backrest moved electrically using a foot control. These are specific control differences, not evidence that either chair will automatically provide the perfect position for every individual.
Choose 602 when you can arrange the client's support before a work segment, its fixed height suits your work and manual changes to the backrest, arms and legs fit your sessions. Consider 606 when changing the working height or the backrest angle is an important part of your sessions and you can accommodate the foot controller, power supply and movement clearance. The maker mentions other adjustable components on the 606, but does not identify all of them as motor-driven with equal clarity. Do not describe every 606 adjustment as electric or choose from a generic marketing promise of limitless positions.
1. What do you actually move during a session?
Separate the appointment into preparing the workstation, the client getting into the chair, positioning the body, tattooing, any planned breaks and finally getting out. For each stage, ask whether the seat height, backrest angle, arm support or leg position must change. These are different functions. A reclining backrest does not equal an adjustable chair height, while built-in armrests do not automatically replace a dedicated tattoo arm support for all working positions.
The manufacturer's description of 602 explicitly identifies manual adjustment of the backrest, armrests and footrest, and a fixed height. For 606 it explicitly identifies electric height and backrest adjustment by foot control. Its feature list also includes adjustable head, foot and arm components, but does not provide an equally precise control diagram for them. Never borrow a lever configuration, locking sequence, number of motors or control-panel layout from another chair model.

The manually adjustable model is SKU 107658, EAN 5906717419201, and the electric model is SKU 124833, EAN 5906717415531. Names can differ among translations and sales listings, so confirm the identifiers and actual functions. See the manufacturer information for 602 and the exact 606 model. Neither marketing text nor these measurements replace the full operating instructions.
3. When manual positioning with 602 makes sense
Manual operation is not necessarily less suitable. If you can set up the intended body position before a working interval, then change the backrest, leg support or armrests only occasionally, the 602 may match that workflow. The three identified adjustments do not depend on an electric foot controller. However, 'manual' does not mean that levers can be operated or loaded components released without reference to the exact chair instructions. The mechanisms, locks and safe sequence need to be established from the delivered documentation.
The practical limitation is the fixed height of approximately 76 cm. If your technique requires a significantly lower or higher client position at different moments, changing only the backrest will not solve the problem. Compare that figure with your stool and the access required for the chosen tattoo location. You may need an independent support for an arm or another body part, but there is no verified claim that every accessory fits the integrated armrests or a universal mounting point.
4. How foot-operated height and backrest adjustment changes work with 606
The central advantage of the Pro Ink 606 is that its height and backrest are electrically adjusted by a foot controller. The documented vertical range is 60–75 cm, a difference of 15 cm between the stated endpoints. This may make it easier to change the working level or recline angle at planned intervals without the operator manually handling those two adjustment mechanisms. The range is specific; it should never be replaced with an assertion of unlimited vertical movement.
Operating a pedal can leave the hands available for other tasks, but that does not automatically make the movement sterile, risk-free or appropriate during active tattooing. The operator must see the moving area and know that cables, clothing, feet and equipment are clear. Inform the client before a change and interrupt any activity for which unexpected body movement could create a problem. Stop the action if you cannot properly oversee the position. Use only the controls intended in the operating instructions for the actual 606 unit; these determine buttons, stopping and precautions.
Additional movable elements are referred to in the manufacturer's feature list, including headrest, footrest and armrests. That is not proof that all of them have their own electric drive. The manufacturer also mentions a single actuator in its cataloguing, but the public description alone does not give a complete wiring or control schematic. Memory presets, automatic programme positions, motor speed and an emergency-stop procedure have not been verified for this specific model; do not promise those functions.
An electrically driven chair also requires a power plan. Keep the plug accessible and determine where the power connection, cable and foot controller can be located without crossing a client's route or complicating routine cleaning. Verify the electrical rating, plug, isolation method and any protection classification on the actual unit's rating plate and manual. No universal voltage, waterproof rating or electrical maintenance method can responsibly be supplied here without the exact documentation.
5. Position the client while retaining a usable working area
A tattoo chair is not chosen solely for its ability to recline. You need access to the intended body area with suitable support for the client, and the client needs a position that can be discussed and maintained appropriately. Work on an arm, leg or back may require distinct backrest angles and supplementary supports. Test the intended working position before opening supplies in the active treatment area, so you do not need to move equipment unexpectedly once the work has started.
When the backrest changes, the tattoo area also changes position in space. Distinguish an adjustment moment from a task that requires the client to remain still. After movement, check the position and support again before continuing. Neither chair's product description demonstrates that a particular posture is medically appropriate for everyone what pressure an individual client can tolerate, or how long someone can remain in a position without a break.
6. Plan access to controls as well as free space
The earlier Prohaar guides to Pro Ink 210DH and Pro Ink 605 deal mainly with clearance when a chair is laid flat. Here a second access question matters: can the chair be adjusted without reaching awkwardly across the workstation or contaminating a clean work area? With 602, a person operating the manual mechanism needs appropriate physical access. With 606, the pedal needs a location where it can be deliberately operated and not inadvertently pressed in a walking route.
The 602 is listed as approximately 180 cm long when reclined and 83 cm wide including the armrests; the 606 as 175 cm long and 80 cm wide including armrests. These figures are not dimensioned drawings of every possible moving configuration. A 5 cm difference in listed length does not guarantee 5 cm of extra usable studio space. Check turning and opening clearances, entrances and the delivery route as separate tasks. Manufacturer logistics dimensions are 125 × 37 × 68 cm for the 602 pallet and 117 × 63 × 64 cm for the 606 package, not their installed operating envelopes.
7. Hygiene: the chair surface and controls require their own attention
The Dutch RIVM explanation of NEN-EN 17169 states that tattoo premises should be cleanable, that cleaning procedures must be documented and that the workplace must be cleaned after each client. Where blood or ink from a used needle has contaminated a surface, suitable disinfection after cleaning is required. This applies regardless of how the chair moves. Artificial leather is not sterile because it looks smooth, and electric operation does not itself prevent contamination.
Include the seat and backrest, but also armrests, hand-operated handles, moving junctions and areas contacted by the operator or footwear. Define which surfaces are client-contact points and which are operated during a session. Cleaning and disinfection products have to be appropriate for both the hygiene requirement and the actual surface material. 'Easy to clean' does not establish that every chemical can safely be applied to the upholstery, frame or controller.
For the 606, the electrical controller and connected parts need additional care. Do not infer from general sales wording that the pedal is waterproof, can be submerged or accepts any disinfectant. Switching-off, controller cleaning and protection of connections belong in the model-specific manual; do not improvise a pedal cover. See the RIVM explanation of tattooing standard EN 17169 for the Dutch rules; studios elsewhere should check applicable local requirements too.
8. Before buying or using either chair
Start with exact product identification and the installation and operating instructions for that model. Product cards confirm functions but do not replace locking, electrical, maintenance or loaded-use instructions. The current manufacturer cards state a load capacity of 200 kg for both models; check the conditions for the delivered version before adopting a position or carrying out a loaded adjustment. The 602's 35 kg is chair mass. For the 606, the description gives 60 kg while the separate weight field gives 80.8 kg without a clear explanation; do not assume net or packed weight, and clarify transport requirements.
Make a short list of positions you actually need: client entry, a working posture and a controlled return to an exit position. Using only the supplied manual, confirm how each required setting is achieved and secured. With 602, check safe adjustment and locking of the backrest, footrest and armrests; with 606 this includes correct foot control of height and backrest. Announce the movement to the client and check that its path is clear. If the electric model malfunctions or behaves unexpectedly, use the manufacturer procedure for stopping and obtain appropriate service instead of improvising with electrical connections.
9. Which option fits your studio?
Choose the Pro Ink 602 if approximately 76 cm fixed height works for your method and you want to set the backrest, armrests and footrest manually. Confirm how the locks work and how the client gets in and out safely. Choose the Pro Ink 606 when you need to adjust the working height between 60 and 75 cm and change the backrest using a foot control. In that case include electrical supply, cable placement and controller cleaning in the buying decision. Neither chair should be purchased on promises of universally perfect posture.
Compare the manual Pro Ink 602 and electric Pro Ink 606 and explore the tattoo chairs collection when a different adjustment system may be more suitable. The decisive checks are the fixed height versus actual adjustable range, which movements are manual or electric, access around the moving parts and the manual for the precise model. Check current availability on its product page.
Questions about manual and electric tattoo chairs
Is the height of the Pro Ink 602 adjustable?
No. Its manufacturer describes a fixed height of approximately 76 cm. The backrest, armrests and footrest are manually adjustable, but this does not create a height range. Compare the height with your working setup before choosing it.
Which Pro Ink 606 parts move electrically?
The verified electric functions are height adjustment between 60 and 75 cm and the backrest, operated by foot control. Other components are listed as adjustable without a confirmed motor-control description. Consult the instructions for the delivered model before assuming any additional powered function.
Can I change the backrest angle during a tattoo session?
Plan a break in actions that require the client to stay still. Explain the movement, check the clearance and reassess body support after adjustment. The exact sequence and locking or stopping procedures are matters for the model-specific manual, not a generic article.
Does electric automatically mean better ergonomics?
No. Foot operation and vertical adjustment can be useful for particular working routines, but posture depends on the artist, client, tattoo location, supports and surrounding furniture. No independently verified study cited here establishes universal health benefits of this model over the manual one.
Which chair suits a client with reduced mobility?
Neither model can be declared universally accessible from the current dimensions alone. Entry, transfers, support and exit require individual assessment. Verify actual dimensions, the explicit load rating and the applicable manual, and plan appropriate assistance when necessary. Electric height control alone is not an accessibility guarantee.
Do 35 and 60 kg indicate maximum client weight?
No. Chair mass and load capacity are different specifications. The manufacturer cards list 200 kg load capacity for both models. Follow the conditions and instructions for the exact version; a declared capacity does not authorise every position or loaded adjustment.
May I use the same cleaning products on both chairs?
Do not assume that merely because both mention artificial leather. Follow the applicable studio hygiene procedure and check the product label and material instructions. For 606, the electric foot control and power components require a separate, documented cleaning approach.
